We currently use BUE 2012 and have an upgrade to 2014 available. We would like to use the license to do a clean install-create new backups, etc. on a virtual server in XenCenter. We back up several servers in addition to Exchange 2010. I am having difficulties wading through all the documentation to get clear answers to my questions.

Is it possible to do a clean install? Are there any special considerations when doing a clean install rather than an upgrade?

Does the server need to be dedicated only for BUE?

Can we install BUE 2014 on a virtual server in XenCenter?

Are there any special considerations when using XenCenter as the server where the BUE application will reside?

If not, how would one restore contacts for a user?

Hi all,

I triying to create a B2D using configure storage > Disk based storage > Disk storage > Named > Network shared storage. when I press next, I received a message in red: "The path appears to be an invalid path. Please ensure the server name and share name are correct". I tried using UNC and IP with the same error.

If I try to open using Windows explorer I can see it (\\DD_Enterprise_Sub\backup-sap). If I try to map it, I can do. I added the path to hosts file. In Windows works fine, but I cannot create under BE. If i try to create a file inside the Windows explorer, it is created.

The destination storage is a DataDomain and is presented to server. The server is under vMware and the OS is Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise. The version of BE is 2014 in a V-Ray edition.

What I doing bad? I search in forums without results.

Hiii experts

i need your suggestions and input on 2 scenarios which I have to perform in november. I have checked various specs related to os, nbu version and hardware on sort.symantec.com. catalog backup do not exist on tape. catalog backup goes to 1 appliance then replicated to another appliance. catalog backup size 240GB. we are basically doing hardware refresh on nbu master. Current backup configuration. NBU ver 7.5.0.6, master server OMS1 on win server 2003 32 bit. 8 nbu appliance at version 2.5.3 , 1 IBM tape library with 10 tape drives. master is robot control host.

1) how to perform catalog migration on new master which is a vm machine OMS1(keeping hostname and ip address same), win 2008 64 bit, NBU version 7.6

2) how to perform catalog migration on new master which is a vm machine OMS1(keeping hostname and ip address same), win 2008 64 bit, NBU version 7.5.0.6 ...... once done. then use binaries to upgrade it to NBU 7.6

3) how to perform catalog migration on new master which is a vm machine NMS1, win 2008 64 bit, NBU version 7.5.0.6.

Ofcourse i will go 1 plan out of these 3.

please share detailed steps

We've recently upgraded to BE2014. Some of our jobs are immediately failing whilst 4 are running with the following error:

NDMP Log Message: DUMP: Maximum number of allowed dumps/restores (4) in progress.
NDMP Log Message: NDMP_OP_ERRORCODE is 'EMAXBACKUPS'
NDMP Log Message: DUMP: Dump failed to initialize.
NDMP Log Message: DUMP: DUMP IS ABORTED
NDMP Log Message: DATA: Operation terminated: EVENT: INTERNAL ERROR (for /vol/EXMBX_DB_05)
NDMP Data Halted: Internal Error
NDMP Mover Halted: Connect Closed

Any ideas what is going on?

We have 7 drives across 2 libraries backing up from multiple NetApp controllers that are running Ontap 8.2.2

The strange part is that 5 backups had started fine. One job completed and the the next scheduled job failed with the above error within seconds, the next one after started and failed within seconds, the third and fourth the same and then the fifth one starts fine......

I'd be grateful for your help.

ive discover on policy my LTO3 is full. i use one tape for daily backup and one tape for weekly on policy .

the question is how to configure two tapes daily and two tapes weekly?.kindly please assist me on this situation

Two Media servers, each with one standalone tape drive, exist in the Sym Netbackup 7.5 environment.

Both weekly full and daily differential incremental backups need to run for the clients and each schedule has a different retention period.

Because of network topology, some clients back up to media server-A and some backup to media server-B.

How can the administrator minimize the number of time tapes will need to be changed manually?

I have noticed some solaris files are getting skipped. I have copied first log and last log there are many files between first and last log that are getting skipping like the below.

Backup Started at around 7:02:49 and ended at 8:42 pm. I think backup is taking unnecessary time to read these files. So any solution for these file. So that

backup could exclude these and dont read these?

importing expired images

i have been looking for a backup date that belonged to a group of expired backup images. using Catalog/Import, I was able to find the first part but that was several weeks ago. i still have many tapes with expired images to go thru.

what i'm doing is i'm importing all those tapes in batches (like 5 at a time) and every morning i would go to Catalog/Verify and search for the dates in question. as long as the date don't show up, i keep importing the expired tapes.

question is, am i doing it correctly?

Checked the access to the filer, its found success. Also tried to take the filer share with MS-Windows type backup and it was successfull.

I just upgraded from BE2012 to BE2014SP1. Previously my 128GB USB Flash Drives (pen drives) ejected at the end of a backup job. Now they don't (which isn't too useful). They remain Online. Their storage type is marked as "Disk cartidge device" and they are in a "Storage Pool" like they were in BE2012. How can I eject them at the end of a job?

OS is W2012R2 Standard Edition (BE2012 was on W2K8R2 EE).

I installed BE 2012 Media server on a Windows 2008 system and ran automount disable and automount scrub before zoning the vmware luns.

After the zoning was done, the luns were visible to media server but some of the luns showed as online.

Although none of the luns were assigned a drive letter the luns which showed up online got me nervous. Is it ok for the luns to be online ?

I have manually set the luns as offline however my worry is if i reboot the media server these luns will again be showing as online.

Please advice if it is ok to for vmware luns to be showing as online.

Have logged a call and keep receiving e-mails from Symantec that a POA has been added to my case and I should log in to mySymantec.

On logging in, I keep getting a On-time registration process screen. Problem is, this is happening now for a week EVERY TIME I log in. I am unable to get past this screen. This is most frustrating.
