Hi,

I'm planning to build a ESXi host and install a Windows Server 2008 R2 or 2012 R2 virtual server and then install backup exec on it. Is this ok and supported by Symantec?

Thanks.

I need a solution

Hi All,

Just want to install BE2012 agent on Windows 2008 R2 server.

But I found the installation failure. I guess it may caused by some port blocked by firewall.

What port have to enable for BE agent push installation ?

Thanks

In SAP Backup tape was mounted for the first backup, then dismounted. for the second backup it will be mounted again.

I need a solution

Hi,

Is this normal for each SAP Backup netbackup will open a new session.

This caused that the tape was mounted for the first backup, then dismounted. for the second backup it will be mounted again.

This dismount-mount operation at least takes two minutes.

For e.g. If 100 files are backuped up, So it will take more 200 minutes only for dismount/mount operation.

Kindly advise some solution for this.

Zakir Khan.

I need a solution

Hi,

I have a new setup  with a CASO and MMS - The catalogs are configured as distributed.

When CASO is offline shouldn’t the locally created jobs not continue? (Now it's just stuck at Loading Media - Target is B2D locally)

I'm getting database error messages on the MMS and console becomes unstable. (See attached picture)

BE 2012 D2D2T DLM and duplication stage vs. NetBackup SLP...

I need a solution

Hi Forum,

Re: BE 2012

With NetBackup SLP, NetBackup will retain the backup data on the intermediary disk staging device until the SLP duplication to tape stage is complete.

Does BE do this?  I mean, in BE, if a duplication stage is missed or fails, then does BE retain the backup data until it is duplicated to tape, or does BE just follow its usual DLM retention rules.

I guess I could re-phrase this as... In BE are the 'duplication to tape' stages loosely coupled to the backup job, or are they tightly coupled (as in NetBackup)?

Thanks.

Remote Agent Versions

I need a solution

Recently I did an upgrade for a customer, backup exec 2012 SP3 to SP4. The upgrade went well, no problems at all. So after the upgrade I told the customer to plan the agent upgrades. I demonstrated how to do this in the bexec gui by right clicking the server and then click update. I tryed this on one of their servers and the agent went to version 14.0.1798.1373.

After couple days I hear back from customer that some agents cannot be pushed so I explain to him the local installation method by copying the RAWS64 folder and running setupaa64.cmd.

Again the customer mails me that agent installations now work but the version number goes to 14.0.1798.1364...which is lower then the one I did from the gui.

I tryed doing the install local again by myself and I got the same version, I see no errors popping up during the installation...I see the command prompt window which closes after about 4 seconds and then a _setup.exe process runs on the server for a while. When that was done I rebooted the server...still the 1364 version. I also tryed killing any msiexec.exe processes before running setup64.cmd but still no luck. I did NOT try to remove the agent and reinstall from scratch...these servers are not easy to reboot for the customer and time windows are short for reboots. It's all physical servers and mix of regular, oracle and sql...

Also backup exec gives no mention of the agent needing an upgrade in the job logs, the backups run fine with "green" status, so no warnings.

So my question is, is it normal that the version is not the same ?

Cannot restore Exchange mailbox via Backup Exec 12.5

I need a solution

Hello All,

Enviromant: Backup Exec12.5 + Exchange 2007

I want to restore some lost email in a user's mailbox, and the backup media located on the local drive (not on tape, it should be more easily buy i still fail on restore), please give some idea / hints help me to fix >< Many Thanks!

I've read & follow this article: http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/restoring-exchange-or-individual-mailboxesitems-using-backup-exec-howto but still fail to restore and error msg as below:

"Restore- \\XXX\Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group V-79-57344-65280 - Unable to restore the selected Microsoft Exchange databases because one or more of the storage group's databases are mounted.  Use the Exchange System Manager to dismount all the databases for the storage group 'First Storage Group', and then retry the job."

And aslo i want to know that whether exchange restore will restore data straight into user's mailbox only??

if i  restore user's  whole mailbox which backup at 2014/10/20, do it means that after i restore, i will lost email from  2014/10/21 - today, so i need to archive these day email first??

if i restore user some serveral email only, it should not infect other emails, should it ?

Thanks so much~~

Can't restore UEFI based recovery point on BIOS based computer

I need a solution

I have a Thinkpad T530 and I have several backups taken with SSR 2013. I am trying to restore a complete backup to a new disk but it fails complaining on UEFI/BIOS problems. It seems to me that the SSR 2013 recovery CD loads from BIOS instead of UEFI eventhough it loads from UEFI when booted from the original SSD. What is going on? I expected this to be super easy, restoring a backup onto the same computer with a new hard drive.

I need a solution

Hi,

I run Oracle RAC environemnt 11g2 NBU 7.6

Im having 2 problems takes me alot of time.

1,

I backup on node2

RUN {

    TYPE 'SBT_TAPE';
SEND 'NB_ORA_CLIENT=pe-pub2,NB_ORA_SID=pub,NB_ORA_POLICY=oradb,NB_ORA_SERV=poc1.lab.svtech';

Then only Node2 can see the backupset in RMAN, while node1 see the backupset as EXPIRE state.

- Any configuration to help Node1 can see above backupset?

2 - In RAC Backup scenerio, with load-balance and failover VIP exist, I configure a script on 2 nodes

3> ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch00   TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' PARMS='ENV=(NB_ORA_CLIENT=pe-pub1-vip)' CONNECT='sys/oracle@pub1';
4> ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch01   TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' PARMS='ENV=(NB_ORA_CLIENT=pe-pub2-vip)' CONNECT='sys/oracle@pub2';

In node1, I set ORACLE_SID=pub1 and Node2 ORACLE_SID=pub2

Then I can run backup script from node1 or node2. Then I can restore OK.

However, in policy, client I set is pe-pub1-vip and pe-pub2-vip. When I run policy from NBU Master It executes 2 jobs. If I remove pe-pub2-vip from client, the jobs from pe-pub2-vip failed with "NULL" status.

As I understand in best practices for Oracle RAC, Option 1 should be set only pe-pub1-vip in client. Option 2 is edit the script according to each database instances, so that 2 scripts would launch on 2 nodes but 1 will stop and 1 will run.

I want to ask what steps to configure avoid this policy problem?

Thank you.

@REM Automatic Differential Incremental  INCREMENTAL LEVEL=1
@REM Automatic Cumulative Incremental    INCREMENTAL LEVEL=1 CUMULATIVE
@REM
@REM For user initiated backups, BACKUP_TYPE defaults to incremental
@REM level 0 (Full).  To change the default for a user initiated
@REM backup to incremental or incrementatl cumulative, uncomment
@REM one of the following two lines.
@REM @set BACKUP_TYPE="INCREMENTAL LEVEL=1"
@REM @set BACKUP_TYPE="INCREMENTAL LEVEL=1 CUMULATIVE"
@REM
@REM Note that we use incremental level 0 to specify full backups.
@REM That is because, although they are identical in content, only
@REM the incremental level 0 backup can have incremental backups of
@REM level > 0 applied to it.
@REM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

@REM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
@REM What kind of backup will we perform.
@REM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

@if "%NB_ORA_FULL%" EQU "1" @set BACKUP_TYPE=INCREMENTAL Level=0
@if "%NB_ORA_INCR%" EQU "1" @set BACKUP_TYPE=INCREMENTAL Level=1

@if NOT DEFINED BACKUP_TYPE @set BACKUP_TYPE=INCREMENTAL Level=0

@REM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
@REM Call Recovery Manager to initiate the backup. This example does not use a
@REM Recovery Catalog. If you choose to use one, remove the option, nocatalog,
@REM from the rman command line below and add a
@REM 'rcvcat <userid>/<passwd>@<tns alias>' statement.
@REM
@REM  NOTE WHEN USING TNS ALIAS: When connecting to a database
@REM  using a TNS alias, you must use a send command or a parms operand to
@REM  specify environment variables.  In other words, when accessing a database
@REM  through a listener, the environment variables set at the system level are not
@REM  visible when RMAN is running.  For more information on the environment
@REM  variables, please refer to the NetBackup for Oracle Admin. Guide.
@REM
@REM If you are getting an error that the input line is too long, you will need
@REM to put the RMAN run block in a separate file.  Then use the "cmdfile"
@REM option of RMAN.  For more information on the "cmdfile" options please
@REM refer to the RMAN documentation.
@REM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

@REM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
@REM PROXY
@REM For a PROXY backup, you must use a send command to specify
@REM the NB_ORA_PC_STREAMS environment variable. For example,
@REM echo ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch01 TYPE 'SBT_TAPE';
@REM echo SEND 'NB_ORA_PC_STREAMS=%%NB_ORA_PC_STREAMS%%';
@REM
@REM %BACKUP_TYPE% must also be removed and replaced with the PROXY parameter
@REM in the RMAN section associated with the data files.  For example,
@REM echo BACKUP
@REM echo       PROXY
@REM echo       FORMAT 'bk_u%%u_s%%s_p%%p_t%%t'
@REM echo       DATABASE;
@REM            .
@REM            .
@REM  Note that the controlfiles and archivelogs are not backed up using proxy
@REM  copy method. Rman will initiate non-proxy copy sessions to backup the
@REM  controlfile and archivelogs.
@REM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I need a solution

Hello Experts,

We are experiencing issue with one of our solaris servers. Its has file system error so some files are getting skipped and backups are partial.

So i enabled bpbkar logs with verbose = 5 on client to know how many files are getting skipped due to I/O can not lsat error.

Now zipped file of bpbkar log is 28 Mb for a day and i dont know how to read it . Pls help so that i can exclude the same culprit directories.
